The Soloists: Joyce Parry Moore, sopranoSoprano Joyce Parry Moore happily returns to Juneau after three years in Berkeley, California, where she attended seminary at the ecumenical Pacific School of Religion as part of the interfaith Graduate Theological Union. Her religious studies followed a career in music, having earned her degree in opera at the Boston Conservatory, sung lyric roles with companies like Central City and Lake George operas, and founded and directed Juneau's Opera to GO! for ten years. While in the Bay Area, Joyce taught workshops on voice and the sacred for churches, schools and conferences, as well as soloing presenting various fund raising concerts, such as for Women for Women International. Emerging from Joyce's studies in sacred dance with renowned liturgical dancer Carla De Sola, PSR helped commision a vocal work by former Juneau composer, Stefan Hakenberg, called Searching and Knowing, based on the recorded sounds of a breast mri imaging process and Joyce's experiences as a grateful breast cancer survivor; this piece may finally receive its choreographed premiere, now that Joyce has graduated. The Rev. Deacon Parry Moore was ordained in June, 2010 on behalf of the Episcopal Diocese of Alaska at Grace Cathedral, and hopes to be ordained to the priesthood this December. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Ministry in pastoral care and counseling at the San Francisco Theological Seminary, and intends to continue her life of combining spirituality with healing and the arts. ![]() Beth Madsen Bradford, mezzo sopranoThis marks mezzo soprano Beth Madsen Bradford's fifth appearance in Juneau.
